Award Recognizes Entrepreneurial Excellence in the Emerging Category

New York, NY, July 7, 2009 – SecondMarket, the largest marketplace for illiquid assets, announced that SecondMarket CEO Barry E. Silbert has received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2009 Award in the Emerging category in Metro New York. The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic, growing businesses. Silbert was selected by an independent panel of judges and the award was presented at a gala event on June 25, 2009 in New York City.

“It is a great honor to receive this prestigious award and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire SecondMarket team,” said Silbert. “To join the likes of past winners such as Google, Yahoo, eBay and Intel is a tremendous honor for SecondMarket, and we are grateful for the support of Ernst & Young LLP. We will continue to develop new, unique ways to provide liquidity to a range of illiquid assets including private company stock and beyond.”

SecondMarket, through its trading platform, proprietary matching algorithm and deep network of contacts, has established itself as the trusted, independent marketplace for investors across a variety of illiquid asset classes, including private company securities, limited partnership interests, auction-rate securities, bankruptcy claims, collateralized debt obligations, residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities, warrants/restricted stock in small capitalization companies and whole loans. Its trading network of more than 3,000 market participants collectively manages over $1 trillion in assets available for investment.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards celebrate their 23rd anniversary this year. The program honors entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptionality in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

“We are proud to recognize the achievements of Barry Silbert,” said Jodi Burns, Ernst & Young LLP’s Entrepreneur Of The Year Program Director for Metro New York. “Winners of the Entrepreneur Of The Year award build leading businesses and contribute significantly to the strength of our region’s economy. Their success helps our area grow stronger.”

As a Metro New York award winner, Silbert is now eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009 national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California on November 14, 2009. The awards are the culminating event of the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.
